چکیده
Abstract The mid-Pleistocene transition 1.25 to 0.6 million years ago marked a major shift in global climate periodicity from 41,000 around 100,000 without concomitant orbital forcing shift. Here, we investigate Asian dynamics associated with two extreme glacial loess coarsening events at the onset and middle of by combining new existing grain size magnetic susceptibility records Chinese Loess Plateau spanning last 1.6 general circulation model simulations. We find that reflect exceptionally enhanced aridification winter monsoon activity. They coincided notable Northern Hemisphere ice sheet expansion 0.9 when 100,000-year initiated intensified, respectively. Our results indicate these anomalously dry windy glacials were probably driven an amplified terrestrial response coincident expansion.

Causes of ice age intensification across the Mid-Pleistocene Transition
During the Mid-Pleistocene Transition (MPT; 1,200-800 kya), Earth's orbitally paced ice age cycles intensified, lengthened from ∼40,000 (∼40 ky) to ∼100 ky, and became distinctly asymmetrical. Testing hypotheses that implicate changing atmospheric CO2 levels as a driver of the MPT has proven difficult with available observations. Here, we use orbitally resolved, boron isotope CO2 data to show t...
متن کاملNeogene aridification of the Northern Hemisphere
Neogene cooling and aridifi cation in the Northern Hemisphere have long been recognized, but there are no studies comparing patterns of aridity gradients or differences between North America and Eurasia. Large herbivorous mammals are an excellent source for understanding large-scale environmental and climatic patterns because their molar crown height (hypsodonty) refl ects both habitat and prec...
متن کاملNorthern Hemisphere Ice-Sheet Influences on Global Climate Change
Large ice sheets actively interact with the rest of the climate system by amplifying, pacing, and potentially driving global climate change over several time scales. Direct and indirect influences of ice sheets on climate cause changes in ocean surface temperatures, ocean circulation, continental water balance, vegetation, and landsurface albedo, which in turn cause additional feedbacks in the ...

متن کاملNorthern Hemisphere summer monsoon intensified by mega-El Nino/southern oscillation and Atlantic multidecadal oscillation.
Prediction of monsoon changes in the coming decades is important for infrastructure planning and sustainable economic development. The decadal prediction involves both natural decadal variability and anthropogenic forcing. Hitherto, the causes of the decadal variability of Northern Hemisphere summer monsoon (NHSM) are largely unknown because the monsoons over Asia, West Africa, and North Americ...
